COURSE OVERVIEW
Commercial fashion photography is the elevated level of product photography with the inclusion of another variable in your equation: Models! Inclusion of models in your product photography adds a depth and dimension to your photos.
In this commercial fashion photography course, we will learn how to deliver product photography with models for brands. You will learn how to breakdown client requirements to plan and execute your shoots. Learn the camera technical, lighting techniques, post-production and working with a team of professionals during your shoot.
Our sessions consist of practical demos with professional models, makeup artist, hair stylist, fashion stylist and mentored by a 10+yrs experienced veteran in the industry. You’ll learn different forms of commercial fashion photography: E-commerce, Lifestyle and Campaign shoots which covers the main aspects of a fashion brand.
You’ll also learn:
- Creative direction required for each form of photography
- To shoot photos with precision and consistency
- Under-the-hood working of a team to shoot with a brand guideline
- Model understanding: Choice of model, makeup, hair styling, clothing & accessories, fittings, posing guidance
- Lighting techniques to elevate the look of garments in photos

Module 1: The equation of photography

- Describing the structure of the course

The equation of photography
Photography is ART + Science. MangoBox Academy (MBS) has developed a full-proof method of studying photography like never before.
Camera & Lens
- Discuss the important elements of camera and lenses required for commercial photography.
- Important topics like: Exposure triangle, white balance, focal length, aperture, sensor knowledge, focusing techniques, metering, reading histogram, drive mode and more will be covered.
Subject
Subject vis-à-vis product or a model is a topic on it’s own. We’ll learn the important aspect of understanding your subject.
Composition (the heart of your photos)
We’ll learn about framing (composing your shot), perspective theory, surrounding implication and/or manipulation.
Lighting (the sould of your photos)
- Utilization of various types of lights – Natural, artificial: continous or flash light
- We’ll explore the various types of light modifiers and their pros and cons, strength and weaknesses
- Learn which light to use when and how
- How to mix various types of lights
Post-production
- Although throughout our course we will learn to get the photos made in your camera. Atleast 80-90% achieved in your camera. We will teach you post-production work to acheive perfection
- Show you industry pro techniques to give the final perfect touch to your images

Module 2: Case studies
Before we actually start doing live practical demos, we need to learn to see the world through the camera lens.
We’ll explore various real-life examples of eye-catching images and break them down.
Developing Observational Skills
A good commercial photographer should develop a keen knowledge on “reading” an image.
Image dissection
We shall explore real example from pinterest, e-commerce websites and other image sources and break a shot down step-by-step in order to understanding how the image was made.
Terminology & Understanding various level of photography
Some photos may take few minutes to shoot and some may take hours. It is very important to understand different types of photography: E-commerce photography, Lifestyle photography, Creative photography, Advertising photography.
We’ll learn what goes in each level of photography types.
How to start as a fashion photographer
Just like becoming a cook or a musician. You must have some tools to start into the field of commercial photography. We will learn about investment, gears, skills that are to be acquired from the beginner to advanced stage.
